Assessing learning goes beyond simple quizzes, according to SMART Exemplary Educator Sarah Lornston. And her presentation today at ISTE is going to show you how!

Sarah is an English language arts teacher at Mahtomedi High School, one of Newsweek’s top high schools in America. Her presentation, Language arts assessment and English language acquisition, takes place today at 11 a.m. in booth 3313.

She will demonstrate how to use SMART Response interactive response systems to track student growth and concept mastery, creating clarity around students’ strengths and areas for improvement. The presentation will show these tools in the context of a high school language arts classroom, but the concepts may be universally applied across curriculum and grade levels.

About Sarah

Sarah has been an avid user of SMART products ever since she got her first SMART Board in 2006.  She became a SMART Exemplary Educator soon after, and participated in the first SEE Summit in 2009.  Since the SEE Summit, Sarah has tried to find every opportunity to share her SMART story with teachers and administrators throughout the Midwest.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Sarah conducts SMART training sessions in the Twin Cities area and across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa, including demonstrations at the TIES Educational Technology Conference.  She also has a passion for Open Source Curriculum and was featured in the Japanese Public Television documentary Education 2.0 for her work with Curriki.org.
